Effects that the eruptions had/ and could have on countries worldwide..

the last eruption caused massive disruptions in air travel all over europe, causing many controversial discussions on where to shut airports down. Air travel was completely shut down in UK, Denmark and Sweden.

according the international air transport association, the eruption in 2010 caused the airline industry to lose out on £1.1 billion, this number will only get bigger with the next predicted eruption.

the airport operators association estimated that airports lost £80 million over the 6 and a half days.

the ash also affected many social, cultural and sporting events across europe. including the funeral of polish president lech kaczynski on the 18th of april.

coontroversially however there some environmental advantages from the eruption. there was an estimated saving of around 1.3 to 2.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
